When a Skypak La Barrique Trolley Became a Personal Cocktail Bar

Sometimes, the most personal pieces of furniture are not the ones we set out to find. They are the ones we discover — and immediately know where they belong.

For one of our customers near Cologne, the story of her Skypak La Barrique Trolley began with a phone call.

She had discovered the La Barrique collection and was fascinated by the combination of the technical character of an airline trolley and the warmth of authentic barrique wood. There was just one question she had not yet answered: should it be the Wine Edition or the darker  Whiskey Edition?

Rather than deciding from photographs alone, she asked if she could visit us and see the trolley in person.

Of course, we said yes.

A Visit to Skypak

A week later, we welcomed her and introduced her to the La Barrique Trolley in detail.

One of the things that makes this piece so distinctive is the material itself. The wooden elements are made from authentic staves of former barrique barrels. Preparing these curved pieces of oak for their new purpose requires considerable craftsmanship: the staves have to be carefully worked and adapted before they can become part of the precise geometry of the trolley.

It is this contrast that gives the La Barrique its character.

Metal and oak. Precision and patina. Aviation and wine culture.

But during our conversation, the story took an unexpected turn.

Not a Wine Trolley. Not a Whiskey Trolley.

Our customer told us that one of her passions is making cocktails.

She enjoys mixing drinks for friends, had even bought a cocktail book to explore new recipes and had gradually collected the bottles, spirits and accessories that come with the hobby.

What she really wanted was a beautiful place to keep everything together.

And suddenly the question was no longer whether she should choose a Wine Edition or a Whiskey Edition.

The question became:

Could the La Barrique become her personal cocktail bar?

So we tried it.

Together, we looked at how the interior could be configured around the way she wanted to use it. Her trolley was equipped with two original airline-style drawers and five barrique wood shelves, creating space for bottles as well as the smaller tools and accessories needed for mixing cocktails.

The result felt right immediately.

And so did her decision.

She chose her La Barrique Trolley that very day.

The Journey to Its New Home

Because our customer lives not far from Cologne, we offered to deliver the trolley personally the following day.

This is always a special moment for us.

A piece can look one way in our own surroundings, but only when it arrives at its destination do we discover how it will actually become part of someone's life.

Her home has a clean, carefully considered interior, where exposed brick, black steel, warm oak flooring and selected design classics create a distinctive yet restrained atmosphere.

And then we placed the La Barrique Trolley in its new position.

It simply belonged there.

The warmth and individuality of the aged oak felt immediately at home against the brick and oak flooring, while the trolley's aluminium frame and technical details echoed the exposed steel and clean lines of the space.

It looked less like something that had just been delivered and more like something that had always been part of the interior.

Our customer was delighted.

For us, that reaction is worth more than any perfectly staged product photograph.

And Then She Made Us a Cocktail

We thought the delivery was complete.

Our customer had other plans.

She invited us to stay for a cocktail — mixed by herself, of course.

And suddenly the idea we had discussed only the day before was no longer an idea.

There it was: her new La Barrique Trolley, surrounded by her own interior, ready for bottles, ingredients, glasses and everything she needs for evenings spent mixing cocktails with friends.

A former barrique barrel had left traces of its history in the oak.

The airline trolley brought its unmistakable technical form.

And our customer gave both of them a completely new purpose.

Made Personal

At Skypak, we have always believed that individualisation is about more than choosing a colour or a finish.

It is about understanding how someone wants to live with an object.

The La Barrique Trolley can become a mobile wine bar. It can house a whiskey collection. It can be configured for hospitality, entertaining or simply as an extraordinary piece of furniture.

And sometimes, a customer shows us another possibility entirely.

In this case, a passion for cocktails transformed the La Barrique into something we could never have designed quite as personally ourselves.

Her bottles will change.

New recipes will be discovered.

Friends will gather.

More cocktails will be mixed.

And the trolley will become part of all those moments.

Perhaps that is when a Skypak truly becomes personal: not when it leaves our workshop, but when it becomes part of someone else's story.
